Smyrna Cobb Coalition

Our vision and our hope is that we will continue to help those in need of adequate housing by building each year in partnership with those of all faiths who wish to serve God, to help their neighbor and to put their faith in action.  We are united through love and, in spite of our differences in theology, we will work together to make the world a better place one house at a time.

Our group, working under Cobb Habitat for Humanity, began in 1995 as Smyrna Coalition. Over the years the denominations have varied to include Baptist, United Methodist, Catholic, Episcopalian, Lutheran, Presbyterian, and Church of God. Most of these churches have been in the Smyrna area. In 2003, we became multi-faith with the addition of a synagogue and a mosque and changed our name to Smyrna/Cobb Habitat Coalition since three of our member groups are from Marietta.

Our original logo was a stone cross with a shadow; jonquils, symbolizing the city of Smyrna, were at the base. With the addition of the synagogue and the mosque to the group, out of respect for their faiths, we added the symbols of these two faiths to create a new logo. It consists of four circles placed in such a manner that they overlap, indicating our partnership in building this house. The Habitat logo is in the middle, touching all four circles because it is Habitat and our belief that we can make a difference in our world that brings us together.
