Catholic Coalition

In 1992, parishoners in five Cobb Catholic churches joined together to form the Catholic Coalition.  Members from St. Joseph's, St. Ann, Transfiguration, Holy Family, and St. Thomas the Apostle (Smyrna) joined forces to provide service to Cobb County by tackling a rehab project known as the Riverside Revival in Marietta.  Since then, the Catholic Coalition has grown stronger and larger, building at least one house a year for NW Metro Atlanta Habitat.

St. Thomas the Apostle, one of the founding churches of the Catholic Coalition, joined the Smyrna Cobb Coalition, another strong and active faith coalition in Cobb County.  In 1996, St. Catherine of Sienna joined the Catholic Coalition, bringing the total churches involved to five.

In 2008, the Covenant Churches joined the Coalition - those churches were St. Peter and St. Paul Episcopal Church, Mount Zion UMC, Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, and Lutheran Church of the Incarnation.

Today, there are nine churches in the Catholic Coalition.  The Coalition has built 25 houses; member churches have actually participated in the building of 35 homes.  There are 24 site project managers/crew leaders who participate in the building of several houses each year in addition to building with the Coalition.

In 2009, the Catholic Coalition provided SPM's, crew leaders, volunteers, and (perhaps most important) LUNCH for an ambitious three-house build in the fall.  Over 1,000 Catholic Coalition volunteers were on site during the build, with as many as 160 on site on a single day!

There is no doubt that the Catholic Coalition stands at the heart of NW Metro Atlanta Habitat's efforts in Cobb County.  Their leadership, enthusiastic involvement, and fantastic attitude are a great influence and motivation for churches, companies and volunteers throughout the area.
